Mr. Anthony Turk
Hello! My name is Anthony Turk. I'm a Montclair, New Jersey, native but moved to Evergreen, Alabama, when I was very young. I knew in first grade that I wanted to be a teacher, and just assumed that I'd be a regular classroom teacher when I grew up.
I taught myself to play the piano at the age of twelve, piddling around on the piano in my church's basement. Pretty soon word spread that I could play the piano. I got a lot of encouragement from my family and the community. I eventually learned how to read music, and before I knew it, I was on my way to Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama, where I became a music major. I knew in the back of my mind that I wanted to teach. I then asked myself, 'Why can't I teach music?' One of my music professors told me that I could become a music teacher, and the rest, as they say, is history! I earned my bachelor's degree in music education in 1998. In August of that year, I became the music teacher at Monroeville Elementary School and taught there for two years. In 2002, I began teaching music at Brewton Elementary School where I have remained since that time. I have been truly blessed to be able to sow into the lives of children, and watch them learn, grow and be!
I am active in my church and in my spare time, I like to read, cook, travel, and put together three-dimensional puzzles.
