• The Alabama State Department of Education (SDE) and the federal No Child Left Behind law require testing in grades 3-8 to assess student achievement based upon the Alabama courses of study in reading and mathematics.   Alabama utilizes the Stanford Achievement Test 10 and the Alabama Reading and Mathematics Test to measure student achievement.  Students in high school must, also, be evaluated in reading and mathematics.  Alabama meets this federal requirement by administering the Alabama High School Graduation Exam for our 11th grade students.  While the achievement level in reading and mathematics are measured, all five subtests must be successfully completed before a student may receive a regular Alabama high school diploma or higher.

To measure the writing skills of students the Alabama Direct Assessment of Writing: Grade 5, Alabama Direct Assessment of Writing: Grade 7, and Alabama Direct Assessment of Writing: Grade 10 are used.

All results for State administered tests may be seen on the Alabama State Department of Education website by clicking on the hypertext at the top of this page.
