Mr. Barry Wood
Barry Wood was named Principal of Brewton Elementary in March 2019. Prior to that Mr. Wood served four years as the Assistant Principal for both Straughn Elementary and Straughn Middle School in Andalusia, AL. He was selected as Alabama’s Assistant Principal of the Year in 2019. His other educational positions have included District Accreditation Coordinator, Assistant Principal for Red Level High School and Math and History teacher at Straughn Elementary, Middle and High Schools. He was appointed to the AdvancED Accreditation Alabama State Advisory Council in 2016 and was the Daughters of the American Revolution, Distinguished Citizen for Covington County 2017.
Mr. Wood holds a Bachelor’s degree in Middle Grades Education, Mathematics from the University of West Florida, a Masters in Instructional Leadership and Administration from Troy University and is currently pursuing his Education Specialist in Instruction Leadership at the University of West Alabama.
He has recently completed his 27th year of service as a Senior Chief Petty Officer in the Navy Reserve with deployments to Camp Patriot, Kuwait (2005-2006) and Kabul, Afghanistan (2013-2014) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He has been awarded the Army Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medal, the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
Mr. Wood and his wife of 29 years, Janice have three incredible daughters, Jordan (a Chemistry and Physics teacher), Reagan (HS Senior) and Lauren (7th grade).
